SHAME ON JAY-Z!
After it was revealed that profits from the "Occupy All Streets" shirts would not be shared with protesters, the rapper and Rocawear came under heavy fire.
After news broke that Jay-Z was releasing a line of T-shirts in support of Occupy Wall Street but that profits would not be shared with protesters, the rapper has been under heavy criticism.
Prior to the shirts being pulled, one of the leaders of the Occupy Wall Street protests said, “Jay-Z, as talented as he is, has the political sensibility of a hood rat and is a scrotum. To attempt to profit off of the first important social moment of 50 years with an overpriced piece of cotton is an insult to the fight for economic civil rights known as #occupywallstreet.”
Jay-Z was seen wearing one of the shirts recently, which modified the “Occupy Wall Street” phrase by crossing out the “w” and adding an additional “s” at the end to read “Occupy All Streets.”
Though some have made light of the “irony” with the decision not to share profits from the sale of the T-shirts, not everyone is on the same page. Russell Simmons, who has taken part in the protests, even bringing along Kanye West), expressed his support for Jay-Z’s shirt, saying, “Glad i got mine today.”
The protests, which began in mid-September in New York City protesting corporate greed and corruption, have since spread to several cities across the nation, including Los Angeles.
